Don't let this happen to YOUR wife too...

Posted by The Wine Whore |

Sheila came home today from Target with this bottle of wine. When I asked her why in the world she bought it, she told me that it just looked "cute". I seriously can't believe after all of the wine we've enjoyed she STILL falls for stuff like that. Here's the worst part, for less than $10, it's not total crap. Don't get too excited... it's not amazing either. I think it has something to do with the alcohol level... most wines that are less than 13.5% usually aren't totally hideous.

Try this test the next time you try a bottle of wine just because it has a cool label or whatever: check the alcohol content and tell me if my theory is true.

Does lower alcohol wine suck less?

Ha ha, I embarassingly admit I'm still a sucker for a pretty face, er label, too. I wonder if falling for packaging is more of a female thing.

I'll test your theory and get back to you.

That said, I nearly spit out my drink when I saw the photo, because I bought that exact same wine, from Target, last week. I was desperately trying to figure out how you got a photo of my wine, and then finally realized you were only talking about your wife and her bottle of wine. Whew.

p.s. I didn't think it was bad. Not the best I've had, but hey, for $10 I might buy it again. I agree with your wife--it does have a cute label. :)

I admit that I am equally guilty when it comes to wine labels-I also go for "organic" and "sustainable" and pay the extra money for it. At least it was not a $20-$30 bottle. :)

Have to say, the "wondering grape" is a cute name..

I find myself falling susceptible to marketing all the time and it's what I DO.

It has been my experience, however, that high alcohol content can hide the flaws in the wine and therefore lesser alcohol wines might actually be WORSE...?

thoughts?

I think you're right! It's much easier to hide flaws in higher alcohol wine... but I just love the way a GOOD low alcohol wine goes with food!
