Last Night's Affair: Beer, Wine, and Booze

Posted by The Wine Whore |

After a long week, I felt that it was only fair to celebrate the weekend in proper wine whore style. To kick off the party, I made my way to the "World of Beer" to meet some old friends and make some new ones. I wasn't about to order a glass of wine at a place named after its selection of beer, so I started off the evening with a Rogue Dead Guy Ale followed by a Bellhaven Scottish Stout, and finished with a hoppy 90 Minute IPA.

Feeling pretty good, I made my way to a friend's house for some dinner and drinks. Once I arrived, all bets were off. Everything from Bogle Old Vine Zin/Grenache to Red Zeppelin Syrah was flowing. I even remember having a shot of Citron at one point in the evening.

Last night was about enjoying life, not about tasting notes. Sometimes you just have to forget about WHAT you are drinking, and just focus on enjoying time with your friends, family, and whoever else you are sharing the moment with at the time. After all, isn't that the whole point?

Ah, a three-rail night for you! I stuck with my 2006 Bell Wine Cellars Chard, the one that's only slightly oaked, but mostly fruit and vanilla.

Speaking of Chards, I ordered Cynthia Cosco's Unoaked 2008 Chard, as I had read some nice reviews of it. She's @passaggio on Twitter, www.passaggiowines.com/. The wine is $13 a bottle, a steal, and one I think you'd probably like. Maybe she can send you a sample for a tasting. The Wine Harlots reviewed it recently.

I did the same! Enjoyed the night with a bunch of amazing old friends from the home builder I used to work for! and... Good for you!! Enjoying time with friends and a little cocktail or more never hurts... actually adds to the spice of the night!!

Hey Randy,

You nailed it man. In the end it's all about sharing good food, wine, conversation, and laughter with the ones you love - [and like]. But the geek stuff is awfully fun, is it not :-)

Cheers!

Researched that anti biotic I am taking and web site warned not to even use mouthwash containing alcohol. How bad is that!
Last night's affair for me was ginger ale then switching to gator ade.
I did end with a mixed drink, however.
Alka-seltzer and water.

I think you are exactly right about needing to sometimes forget about WHAT you are drinking, and just focusing on enjoying things. For those of us who blog about drinking, even stopping to fully enjoy what we are drinking can sometimes be a problem. What is wine about, after all, if not about enjoying the company of friends, and enjoying the wine itself?

Sounds like a great time.
