Last Night's Affair: Chateau Haut-Bailly

Chateau Haut-Bailly Pessac-Leognan 2003

The Affair:
Let me just tell you that I hate Sundays. I know I should be happy that I'm not at work, but there's still something about the end of the weekend and the impending doom of a new week that just makes me depressed. Luckily, I've found that a nice dinner accompanied by an even better bottle of wine really helps soften the blow.

Tonight, to celebrate my sense of smell returning as well as the coming week, I decided to open a bottle that I brought back from Bordeaux personally.

Not only was this the first Chateau that I visited while in Bordeaux, but it was also one of my favorites. Haut-Bailly's wine is just so full and elegant... like nothing else I've had from the U.S. Although I think Bordeaux wine is somewhat of an acquired taste, those who appreciate its beauty would be amazed by this particular festival for the palate. From the second the cork is removed, until the moment the last drop is poured, this wine evolves, blossoms, and is sure to make you fall in love.

I know I did!

I can't think of a better way to start the week and thank the universe for returning my sense of smell....

Thank you!

For this and other affairs, check out the summary of scores, map, or even choose my next bottle.

Randy - I could only be so lucky to ever get a chance to visit Bordeaux. Maybe once the kid has graduated and moved out...sigh...5 more years... Cheers!

Well stated! I can think of nothing better to brighten up a gloomy Sunday.

Man, you summed up my feelings perfectly today. I had a big case of the Sunday blues today. My wife and I were talking about how depressing Sundays are. I found the same solution as you. A nice dinner and a good bottle of wine, although not quite as good as the one that you had. :) Cheers, and hopefully you have a good week.

Doesn't it suck to have the Sunday blues! I bet Sundays wouldn't be so bad if I just focused on enjoying the day instead of dreading the next one to come.

Josh, Bordeaux was a lot of fun... I really learned a lot about wine while I was out there. This year's wine trip will be to WA for the conference. There's really nothing cooler than visiting a region and experiencing/learning about the wine firsthand. I'm also really excited to meet folks like yourself. I always get a kick outta meeting people in person that I've only known from the internet.

A nice dinner and a nice bottle of wine does the trick every time! Doesn't even have to be a really nice bottle... just as long as it takes your mind off of things for a little while and you enjoy it! That's ALL that matters!

Cheers to you Ben, Matt, and Josh! Hope your week is off to a great start!
