Wine Whore Discrimination

Posted by The Wine Whore |

I can't believe this "Wine Whore" discrimination! This is TOTAL crap!

I've applied twice to wine.com's affiliate program and got REJECTED both times.
According to their email response, the fact that my blog has the word "whore" in it disqualifies me due to "inappropriate" content!

Read it for yourself:

    We regret to inform you that Wine.com has chosen not to accept you into our affiliate program at this time. The reason may be as follows:

    * Inability to access Web site
    * Web site not yet live
    * Traffic levels too low
    * Inappropriate material on site

    Please feel free to re-apply with Wine.com whenever you feel you have been able to address the concern(s) listed above.

    The LinkShare Network(tm) also consists of hundreds of other Affiliate Programs. We encourage you to look for other programs that may be of interest to you. Simply log in to your account by clicking here(http://www.linkshare.com) and then clicking on a program category for additional merchant listings.

    If you encounter any problems, or have any questions or concerns, please feel free to visit our Help section by clicking here (http://www.linkshare.com/help.html), or contact LinkShare at contact@linkshare.com. Thank you for your participation in The LinkShare Network(tm), and we look forward to a rewarding partnership with you!

Did I miss something? I did not see where they said "whore" was the problem. I see they said there was "Inappropriate material on site" but there is no explanation of exactly what that might be.

Did you ask for an explantion of their decision? Did you respond, explaining your use of the term "whore?"

I am hoping you are right, Richard! Before I posted this, I sent them a letter about it to see what's up! I'll make sure to share the response.

I haven't tried those programs Josh... any other ones worth looking into?

Being a whore is hard... :(

C'mon Randy, it's not the word 'whore' that Wine.com is referring to as 'Inappropriate material on site.' I believe the inappropriate material could be that photo of you in the robe standing outside on a balcony (http://bit.ly/4D8m0y) - still hilarious. Wearing jeans on the golf course could also have something to do with it.
Also, been crazy busy, but just catching up on backlog of reading, and just read thru that 'blogging post' from few weeks ago. Great discussion, sorry I missed the rancor - I would like to have participated.

Perhaps they feel, as I and others I have shown this to, that the word 'whore' has negative connotations. Use it and other words if you like, but don't expect some of us to read further. That's our privilege.
And I don't like being 'anonymous' but can't figure out how to be anything else here.

I agree with Frank. I think it's the picture of you wearing jeans on a golf course. It's scandalous and offensive to the Ted Knight crowd.
