Wine and Cancer?

Posted by The Wine Whore |

Is it possible that wine and other forms of alcohol consumption can contribute to cancer?

According to this article scientists believe that there may be a link between alcohol and the mechanism that triggers cancer cells to spread throughout the body.

Will wine be seen as deadly as cigarettes?

If this is true will people stop consuming wine?

Personally, I don't see myself giving up the stuff but at the same time, I hope there isn't much truth to this research. I can't fathom how drastically this information would change the world and the way they see wine.

Wow! That is really bad news if it turns out to be true...

I am trying to decide whether or not I think people will stop drinking wine... I know this would be a hard decision for me.

It would all really depend on the extent to which wine would cause cancer. For instance, I still use artificial sweeteners because I believe that I would have to ingest a ton of the stuff to have any real risk.

Would you think twice about your next glass?

Having just battled breast cancer this past year, I can answer the question. No. I still would not give up wine!! And, luckily, as my particular cancer was not hormone receptive the doctors said I can still drink wine, no worries there. (Although, bonus information, wine tasted terrible during chemotherapy. Now, tequila? that cut through chemo just fine!)

First of all, you totally have my respect for battling with this disease. I know that must be rough... especially the part about the wine tasting terrible during chemo. Tequila, on the other hand, I could get used to! :)

Very interesting insight and perspective! Thank you for sharing it with me.

Everything gives you cancer nowadays. Soon they'll say that love and chocolate give you cancer. It's all about balance.
