Wine Whore Review:
Truchard Carneros Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Taste Score = 9/10 Points
Enjoyability Score = 9/10 Points (Additional stats below)

Thank you all for helping me decide which bottle to taste!

This weeks race was so close I was convinced it would end up in a tie. Although all three wines were worthy of the Wine Whore, in the end a winner was chosen

Watching the site every day to see which wines are in the lead is only part of the fun. For me, the opportunity to taste and share a glass of wine virtually with my fellow Wine Whores via Twitter and Facebook is the greatest part of this interactive experience. Thank you all for hanging out with me for this tasting I am looking forward to doing it again next week!

Here are the highlights twittered as I tasted:
Dark crimson hue in the glass... so full of juicy color, you can almost taste it with your eyes.

The Truchards are great farmers. Their grapes make for some good juice. -@MarvinTowler

Its bouquet of spicy cherry tickles your nose while the gripping tannin hangs on for the ride.

Tantalizingly spicy at first and then it slowly fades into a long balanced finish filling the mouth with dry gripping fruit.

Vintage Info:
"Near perfect conditions throughout the spring of 2005 resulted in excellent berry set and a very large crop. Mild summer temperatures gradually ripened the fruit, allowing for extremely long hang time. The 2005 vintage produced elegant wines, with intense aromas, rich flavors, and beautiful structure. This wine is very drinkable upon release, but has the ability to age for the next 10 - 15 years." -Truchard

Recommended Food Pairing:
This full bodied yet dry wine deserves a meal that capable of standing up to its bullying richness. There is really only one entre equipped for such a muscular challenge: juicy seared steak glazed by a coat of oozing marbleized fat.

Feeling daring? Taste this wine alone or with a slice of your favorite smoked or spicy cheese.

Wine Whore Score:

Overall this bold wine from Truchard is an excellent example of a Napa Valley Cabernet. Packed with brawny grip and dynamic character, this wine tastes great today but also has the ability to evolve over time. Let it breathe and you will be rewarded by the perfume and pleasing taste of this full bodied cabernet. This wine scores well with a 9 for taste AND enjoyability giving it a stellar score of 32.5 out of 40 points and a high average score of 8.1 out of 10 points.

You always come up a new wine to search out. But, that's the fun of wine shopping. Will definitely look for this one (BBQ grill season just heating up)
